Qualifications

  • Is a North Carolina licensed Teachers Certification and/or License

  • Has program and managerial experience in a North Carolina public mental health setting, which would provide knowledge of principles and practices of public mental healthcare, funding streams for such care, and related State and Federal requirements.

 

Job Description

The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with mental health needs, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aids, accommodation, and other needed supports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Follows effective instruction and positive behavioral supports that are beneficial for implementation with all students with mental health needs. 

  2. Develops strategies to meet the needs of each individual student. (IEP)

  3. Instructs students in academic subjects per school curriculum.

  4. Modifies and develops daily curriculum needed based on techniques required for individual learning styles and approved curriculum.

  5. Works with parents, administrators, school psychologists, and other professional to develop Individual Education Plans for each student. 

  6. Completes report cards and progress reports on each students’ progress.

  7. Plans and supervises class projects, recreational activities, art activities, and field trips.

  8. Administers specialized testing as necessary. 

  9. Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.

  10. Prepare lesson plans and resources for children within his/her learning areas.

  11. Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one.

  12. Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plan.

  13. Update IEPS assess students’ performances and track progress.

  14. Discuss students’ progresses with parents, teacher, counselors, case managers, and clinical directors.

  15. Make a collaborative program for each student.
